One should note that the information on the reign and time of Stephen the Great has been considerably enriched over the years. In points of archaelogy, for instance, the research work undertaken at Putna Monastery in the late 60s and early 70s led to an accurate identification of the plan of the original church, designed to be the necropolis of the voivodal family. Another breakthrough occured during the archaeological excavations at Razboieni (Neamt County), when under the foundation of the church erected there in 1496 an ossuary emerged. Here were piously gathered the remains of the "soldiers of Moldavia" [...] These examples, taken from the sole field of resaerch, are sufficient to place into light the neccessity of the present work.
